No Kings Protest around Harvey / Wichita, KS June 14th 2025

Harvey, Co - Sixty people showed up with only two days notice. Wichita had 4,000 people show! Nationally we hit 13 million protestors (alt. State Parks Site). We came, and we are fired up!!

Today, June 14, 2025, the "No Kings" protests are taking place nationwide, coinciding with President Donald Trump's 79th birthday and a military parade in Washington, D.C., commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Organized by the grassroots 50501 movement, these demonstrations aim to challenge what participants perceive as authoritarian actions by the Trump administration.(theguardian.com)

Key Issues Being Protested

  1. Authoritarianism and Executive Overreach Protesters argue that President Trump is consolidating power in ways that undermine democratic institutions. They point to the militarized parade as a symbol of this trend. The event involves over 6,000 troops and military equipment, with an estimated cost of $25–$45 million, raising concerns about the politicization of the military .

  2. Immigration Policies and ICE Raids Recent crackdowns on immigration, including ICE raids and deportations, have sparked outrage. In cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles, protesters gathered outside ICE facilities to express their dissent .

  3. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) The creation of the DOGE, led by Elon Musk, is viewed by many as an attempt to centralize power and reduce government accountability. Protesters are calling for investigations into Musk's role and the potential impacts of the department .

  4. Civil Liberties and Democratic Values The movement emphasizes the protection of civil rights and democratic principles. Participants are concerned about the erosion of freedoms and the concentration of power in the executive branch .

Nationwide Participation

The "No Kings" protests are occurring in all 50 states, with significant turnout in urban centers. In Texas, for instance, over 15 demonstrations are planned, including in Austin and Houston, with Governor Greg Abbott deploying approximately 5,000 National Guard troops and 2,000 state police in anticipation .(en.wikipedia.org)

Local Context

In Kansas City, Missouri, while specific details of local events are not available, the national scale of the protests suggests that local groups may be participating in solidarity. Residents interested in joining can check community organizations or social media platforms for information on local gatherings.

The "No Kings" protests represent a significant moment in American political discourse, highlighting widespread concerns about governance, civil liberties, and the future of democracy. - [info from cgpt]
