Harvey Dems History

Over time we have run dozens of candidates, helping those who have needed it. Some candidates are free to run their own campaigns, and every odd election year we help non-partisan candidates. Our best candidates win when they are team players, allowing those with excitement and skills to help out in the areas they excel.

History through the years

In this era, we helped to get Laura Kelly (Gov), Tim Hodge (Ks House), Angela Becker (school board), and more get elected into positions of power. This got us out of the failed Brownback tax experiment, and got us out of the Food Sales Tax that Tim Hodge championed with our governor among other things.

One of our big accomplishments of our party was setting up a regular budget and funding comittee where we put on events that mimicked the fun of our annual Ham and Bean dinner, but in other ways.

We had speakers at the Carriage Factory Art gallery on multiple occasions with cartering, John Carmichael(2 or so), James Thompson (3x or so), Tim Hodge (dozens), Rick Piepho, county electioneer (1x), Laura Kelly, Governor (3), Jeanna Repass, KDP Chair (1). Other locations included the Bread Baskey (Laura Kelly), the Dyck Aboretum, (Repass, Toland, more), Carraige Factory Park, etc.

In 2022, we tried so hard but didn't get anyone to throw their hat in the ring to run, and were able to solely focus on the Aug 5th 2022 "Value them Both" Amendment where in the mother wasn't valued. The "Vote No" initiative let voters know that "Value them Both" would remove medical privacy and freedom from everyone: to let politicians effectively decide what happens in your private medical room. Vote No to politicians deciding the fate of your mother, your friends. And with that Harvey County, a rural red county, voted NO.

We always make sure to differentiate party volunteer work that is separate from the campaigns of candidates. Candidates will choose how to run their campaigns separately from how the Party decides to excite voters. The Democratic Party's roll is empowering voters to vote for all candidates under our umbrella, by knocking doors, or creating discussion around the issues.

2023-2024

Angela and Rodger as Chair and Co-Chair

2023, our County decided to elect a new Democrats Board and that consisted of a younger group of people, 4 people in their 30's and 40's. This year 11/15 offices where Dems ran, they WON! At the time the state party was helping with a mass text program, and we had a great amount of door knocking, and voter contact with post cards, and local texting program from within the party. Social media played a large roll here, as well as billboards, etc.

2024, proved to be a tougher year where we had a lot of federal rhetoric controlling narratives. An interesting technique here was seeing what happened if we focused away from social media, less on billboards, and concentrated on door knocking, and post cards. This year the entire country saw losses, and so did our small rural county. But even in this climate, having a candidate to run really draws out the issues at forums and debates.

2025+

Barbara and Rodger as Chair and Co-Chair.

So far we are getting organized to find candidates and getting our group re-organized to fire on all cylinders in what worked from previous years. Candidates are a big goal here. We really want to be as communicative as possible on email/social media/calendar, with a special "issues" site that can deal with the federal and state appetites for our county's voters.
